RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

WHAT IS RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY?

Restorative Dentistry deals with removal and repair of cavities and restoration of missing teeth.

WHY IS RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY IMPORTANT?

  • To save the tooth: Early detection and timely treatment helps to save the tooth.

  • To restore missing teeth: One does not know the significance of teeth unless one looses one or two. Restorative dentistry replaces the missing tooth

  • To restore functionality: Loosing even a single tooth impacts the functionality while chewing.

  • To improve smile: Restoring missing front teeth boosts one's confidence by improving smile.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT RESTORE MY TEETH?

Tooth is the only part of human body which can not heal itself. A tooth with cavity requires some treatment. If left unattended, a simple cavity will turn into larger cavity causing pain. A dental cavity which may have been treated with a simple filling may now require root canal treatment.

An infection in your tooth can raid more than just one part of your mouth. If allowed to sit for too long, the infection can cause significant damage to your oral cavity. Restorative dental care ensures that infections are curbed from the root cause, ensuring no further progression of damage in your mouth.

WHAT TREATMENTS COME UNDER RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY?

Treatments which restore and replace missing teeth available are Composite Fillings, Crowns, Bridges

COMPOSITE FILLINGS

A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be cleaned and then filled with a composite filling. There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. As composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.

After root canal treatment, the tooth is many times in a condition where it requires covering to improve its strength, appearance, function. This is provided by dental crown. Dental crowns come in various materials and are selected depending on the function and requirement of the tooth.
